2019 Goal Setting

I don’t know about you but this time of year makes me reflect and look at what I want to achieve in the coming year. After Christmas is done I find myself getting itchy feet and i’m ready to jump back in to everyday life again.

I have found goal setting really useful throughout 2018. I wanted to share a couple of things that I find make achieving goals easier. I think most people have the best of intentions this time of year and then beat themselves up because they aren’t achieving what they thought they would have by June.

Set achievable goals

I remember learning about SMART goals in school and basically just laughing. Now i’m an adult and there is a lot more on my plate than getting my homework in on time this isn’t so laughable. Firstly, you shouldn’t flood yourself with goals. Choose one or two that mean a lot to you. Secondly, get those SMART Goals tactics out.

Bite size chunks

Split your ‘big goals’ in to some smaller monthly/weekly/daily goals. This allows you to think of bite size, manageable steps which will ensure you are working towards your end of year goal.

Celebrate the wins, no matter how small

Having a Bullet Journal has really helped me to realise the importance of this. I’m not talking cracking a bottle of champagne every time you shed a pound or learn to cook a new meal, but if thats what you want to do – get it girl! Just a simple pat on the back to encourage yourself to keep going will do the job.

Don’t beat yourself up

Don’t beat yourself up! This is the opposite of the above, you will basically demotivate yourself and then eventually give up completely. Keep going girl (or boy)!

Do it once, then do it again

I usually do a rough goals list before sitting down and doing my actual list. It allows you to have some time to reflect on which of those goals are actually important and you would want to explore further.
